The Department of Classical Music is offering a professional musical education at the highest level. All instruments of the symphony orchestra can be studied in our department, as well as the piano and the classical guitar. You can also study choir conducting, orchestral conducting and the conducting of all kinds of the woodwind and the brass band.
The study consists of two phases: the first phase (bachelor) which provides a profound general theoretical, practical and creative base for the professional craftmanship of the student and the second phase (master) which gives the extra talented student the opportunity for specialising and enhancement.
We are proud in having contracted the very best musicians from the Netherlands and from abroad in our department as professors. You can find their personal achievement lists elsewhere on this site. The curriculum is a well balanced mixture of theoretical and practical approaches, of private lessons and working in groups, of small ensembles and orchestras. At the moment we are examining our curriculum in a very critical way. In our opinion nowadays in this fast changing musical culture we are obliged to offer our students the very best professional education they can get. Students are challenged at their utmost in our Conservatoire!!
